Special Election - Congressional District 5

About This Election

Election Results

On Tuesday, March 8, 2005, voters in Congressional District 5 will head to the polls to cast ballots in a special primary election. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. This is a primary election to fill the vacancy created by the death of Congressman Robert T. Matsui. If one candidate receives a majority of the votes (50%+1), no special general election will be held. If needed, a special general election will be held on May 3, 2005. California has 53 members of the House of Representatives elected for two-year terms. This election will fill the position for the remainder of the current two-year term, which started in January 2005.

If you are unsure of your voter registration status or don't know your polling place, contact the Sacramento County election office. For more information about voting in California, see CVF's Voting FAQ. Additional information is available at the Secretary of State's website.
