New “Proposition Song” debuts at www.calvoter.org

Song introduces voters to all 13 state ballot propositions

Davis, California -- Today the California Voter Foundation released “The Proposition Song”, a sing-along song designed to introduce voters to the thirteen propositions on California’s November 7 ballot. Each proposition is reviewed in the song, which runs just under three minutes and is set to a traditional folk melody. The Proposition Song is available on CVF’s web site, at www.calvoter.org.

“California voters are facing a long and complicated ballot this election,” said Kim Alexander, the California Voter Foundation’s (CVF) president and founder. “The song introduces voters to the propositions in a fun and interactive way.” Alexander wrote the song’s lyrics and recorded it Tuesday with a group of musical friends at Capital Public Radio’s studio in downtown Sacramento. The song is available for free from CVF’s web site in an mp3 format. Lyrics and chords are also provided, with additional formats available soon. News organizations, radio stations and others who want to broadcast the song for nonpartisan voter education purposes are encouraged to do so.

The Proposition Song is one of many election resources produced by CVF, which provides an array of nonpartisan voter information on its web site. “Learning the song is certainly not going to fully prepare you to make informed choices,” Alexander said, “but it will help you get started.” Other resources CVF provides online include the California Online Voter Guide, which offers timely information and links for all the state and federal contests, tips on how to host election house parties, a voting equipment directory and map, and details on California’s election verification process.

The California Voter Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing the responsible use of technology to improve the democratic process. More information about CVF is available at www.calvoter.org.
