Calvoter.org Delivers Nonpartisan Election Information to California Voters

Fall 2010 California Online Voter Guide Debuts

Sacramento, CA – Today the California Voter Foundation (CVF) debuted Fall 2010 edition of its California Online Voter Guide to help Californians prepare to vote in the November 2 election. The guide is online at www.calvoter.org.

“California voters face a long and complex ballot,” said CVF president Kim Alexander. “With eight statewide offices on the ballot, one U.S. Senate contest, nine statewide propositions, plus legislative, congressional and local races, a typical voter will confront at least twenty voting decisions this election.”

To help with that daunting task, CVF has produced a new edition of its nonpartisan California Online Voter Guide, serving as a “one-stop shop” to help voters sort through the state and federal contests.

CVF’s guide serves as a directory for all state and federal contests, and features all candidates, their party affiliations, contact information and links to campaign web sites. On the propositions, voters will find nonpartisan information from the official State Voter Information Guide, news articles, campaign information and resources to help them follow the money and find out who’s behind the campaigns.

Also available on CVF’s web site is a “Voting FAQ”, contact information for county election offices including direct links to county voter registration status lookup tools where available, and information about voting systems and voting by mail. “Many voters do not realize that elections are administered at the county level,” Alexander explained. “Our site helps direct voters to the government agencies that can best help them when they need to verify their registration status, locate their polling place or get answers vote-by-mail questions.”

CVF published the first edition of the California Online Voter Guide in 1994; the guide is now in its 20th edition. The California Voter Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization advancing the responsible use of technology to improve the democratic process. CVF’s 2010 voter outreach projects are supported by the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation.
