Fall 2004 California Online Voter Guide Debuts at calvoter.org

Nonpartisan Resource Serves Growing Pool of Eligible Voters

Davis, CA – To help voters prepare for November's General election, the California Voter Foundation (CVF) has released the eleventh edition of its award-winning California Online Voter Guide.  The guide is available online at:

“The number of people eligible to vote in California has increased by over 400,000 since the last presidential election,” said Saskia Mills, CVF executive director and editor of the California Online Voter Guide.  “Our guide will provide all the state’s voters with information not only about the candidates and propositions, but also about the voting process itself.”

Along with choosing a President and Vice President, voters this fall will elect a U.S. Senator, 53 Members of Congress, 100 state legislators, and countless local officials. Voters will also decide the fate of 14 statewide ballot measures ranging in topic from primary election rules and stem cell research, to tribal gaming compacts and California’s “three strikes” law.

“CVF’s voter guide is the type of resource the Internet was designed for,” said Kim Alexander, president and founder of the California Voter Foundation. “When California voters turn to the web for quick access to election information over the next three months, they’ll find trustworthy and comprehensive resources at calvoter.org.”

CVF will continue to update the voter guide as the election draws closer, adding information such as official proposition summaries, highlights of election news coverage, campaign contact information and web site links, and lists of major proposition campaign donors.

In addition to the California Online Voter Guide, CVF recommends the following election-related web sites:

Support for the California Online Voter Guide is provided by The James Irvine Foundation.  The California Voter Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization  advancing the responsible use of technology to improve democracy. CVF does not take positions on ballot measures or candidates. More information about  the California Voter Foundation is online at http://www.calvoter.org.
