Online Guide Helps Californians Prepare for May 19th Special Election
Nonpartisan resource identifies top donors to state ballot measures

Sacramento, CA – Today the California Voter Foundation (CVF) launched a new California Online Voter Guide to help Californians prepare to vote in the upcoming statewide Special Election.  The guide is online at:

www.calvoter.org/covg

“This is one of the most confusing sets of ballot measures put before voters in the last twenty years,” said CVF president Kim Alexander, noting that this is the eighteenth edition of the nonprofit’s award-winning nonpartisan guide.  “Voters looking for easy access to reliable election information will find it at www.calvoter.org.”

CVF’s guide covers Propositions 1A through 1F, providing the public with a list of the top donors for and against each measure, news articles, and key information from the official state voter information guide.  In addition, voters can access contact information for all 58 county election offices, a county-by-county voting equipment directory, and tips on registering to vote, voting by mail, and hosting election house parties.

“The goal of CVF’s guide is to help voters make informed, confident choices,” Alexander said.  “Given the complexity of the measures on the ballot, voters will be looking for shortcuts to help them decide how to vote.  Our site provides those shortcuts by identifying the top donors, the ballot pamphlet proponents and opponents, and excerpts from news articles that give voters insight into the politics surrounding these measures and the election itself.”

The California Voter Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization advancing the responsible use of technology to improve the democratic process.  CVF’s 2009 voter education projects are supported by the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation.
