Election reform letter to Pres. Obama, CA vote count & "Giving Tuesday"
Thursday, November 27, 2012
Hi Folks,
Last week the California Voter Foundation sent President Obama a letter on behalf of 29 voting technology experts, asking him to focus on low-tech, paper-based solutions to fix our voting system, something he said in his election night victory speech that he wanted to do.
The letter also urges the President to work toward elimination of unverifiable, paperless electronic voting machines, and to refrain from supporting the suggestion by some that Internet voting, which is not a secure option at this time, is a viable solution to address polling place delays and problems. It's signed by some of the leading thinkers in election verification including computer scientists, academics, election officials, legal experts and election reform advocates from numerous states. The letter is online at http://www.calvoter.org/issues/votingtech/pub/Election_verification_letter_to_Obama_11-20-12.pdf.
Though most California contests have been decided, many counties are still counting votes, as the Secretary of State's "Unprocessed Ballots Report" shows, with almost 1 million still remaining to be counted. Counties have until December 4 to finish; official results and turnout are due on December 14 from the Secretary of State.
And last but not least... as you may know, today is "Giving Tuesday" and if you are looking for a good cause to support please consider the California Voter Foundation! Donations can be made online via PayPal, or via check made out to the "California Voter Foundation" and sent to P.O. Box 189277, Sacramento, CA 95818.-- Kim Alexander, President & Founder
