Nov. 3 election info; June 2010 election preview
November 3, 2009
Hi Folks,
Today is Election Day for many California voters. For information on contests on the ballot, visit the League of Women Voters' Smartvoter.org web site, an excellent nonpartisan resource for information, endorsements and news about local and special election candidates and measures.
California county election offices are also a key source for election information and the place to go to find election results. You can access a directory of the 58 California county election offices and web sites from the CVF web site at http://www.calvoter.org/voter/government/ceo.html.
The next statewide election is just seven months away! To help folks get ready, the California Voter Foundation has compiled the June 2010 California Election Preview, featuring a list of important links and resources. Here you will find the official election calendar, 2010 Candidates' Statement of Intention, Ballot Measure Update, qualifications for running for office, links to ballot measure campaign committees, and more.
So far three measures have qualified for the ballot (all were placed there by the Legislature; so far no initiatives have qualified but many are in circulation):
-
Senate Constitutional Amendment 4 of 2008, authored by Senator Roy Ashburn (Property tax: new construction exclusion: seismic retrofitting)
-
Assembly Bill 583 of 2008, authored by Senator Loni Hancock (Political Reform Act of 1974: California Fair Elections Act of 2008)
-
Senate Constitutional Amendment 4 of 2009, authored by Senator Abel Maldonado (Elections: open primaries)
For another kind of election preview, listen to Capital Public Radio's Marianne Russ recent interview with Sherry Bebitch Jeffe, a USC scholar and longtime observer of California politics, who provides a frank lowdown on the electoral politics taking shape as we head into the race for the next California governor.
Have a great week,
Kim Alexander
