Verifying the Vote in 2008 Presidential Election Battleground States

Hi Folks,

Tomorrow is the big day! I'm sure you are all as excited as I am. I have never experienced an election before where there has been this much enthusiasm and anticipation.

Some folks may be wondering whether and how the votes will be verified in key battleground states. Longtime CVF-News subscribers know that California got rid of paperless electronic voting machines in 2006 and has drastically reduced the use of electronic voting machines overall. Many other states have also made progress with improving their voting systems over the past four years. Some, however have not.

Below is a brief summary of how the vote can and will (or will not) be verified in 13 battleground states, co-written by Pam Smith of Verified Voting and myself. This summary will help folks follow along if there are close votes in any of these states, and is also online at:
