Reminder -- Commonwealth Club address tomorrow, July 7

July 6 , 2004

Hi Folks,

I hope to see many of you tomorrow in San Francisco, where I'll be speaking at the Commonwealth Club of California.

The topic of my address is "The Voting Rights Struggle of Our Time". My remarks will focus on the growing movement to support verifiable voting systems and the need for a voter verified paper trail to back up every digital ballot, as well as better oversight of voting systems at all levels of government.

California is at the forefront of efforts to implement voting technology reforms. I'll be discussing recent developments in California, and how our state is impacting this debate nationwide, such as last week's tentative ruling by U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper upholding California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley's April 30 decertification orders and voter verified paper trail requirement.

This event is open to the public and is free to Commonwealth Club members; the non-member's admission fee is $18. Journalists can receive a complimentary ticket by contacting Nicole Grant at the Commonwealth Club, 415-597-6719.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception. The program begins at 6 p.m. and includes a half-hour address and a half-hour of questions and answers moderated by Scott Shafer of KQED Radio.

The Commonwealth Club is located at 595 Market Street in San Francisco. To attend, please RSVP to the Commonwealth Club -- event details are online at http://commonwealthclub.org/featured.html#voting. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

I hope to see you on July 7th!
