Local Races and Measures
As a California voter, you are represented by numerous local officials, such as your city councilmember, county supervisor, and school board member. Local elections are overseen by California's 58 county elections officials, who are sometimes called the "registrar of voters" or "county clerk".
Each registered voter receives a County Sample Ballot in the mail from your county elections office which tells you about the local candidates and measures on your ballot. You should receive your County Sample Ballot a few weeks before the election; study it carefully, and consult your local newspaper for more information on local candidates and issues. If you have not received your sample ballot, or have misplaced it, contact your county elections office and ask them to send you another one.
County Elections Offices. Many county
elections offices have put up their own homepages, some featuring the contents of
the County Sample Ballot. If your county does not have a homepage, perhaps you can
help them get started by finding companies or individuals in your community to help
develop a site. Contact your local county
elections office to find out what their plans are for a web site.
