"My main focus this year and during a second term will be education. Like many
district residents, I have made the pursuit of excellence in education a lifelong
aspiration. So I find it unacceptable that we still have so many crumbling school
buildings, overcrowded and potentially volatile campuses, under-qualified and over-worked
teachers and that we still have so many unmotivated students who drop out of school
or graduate without the basics that they need to cope in today's world."

"I am also anxious to continue working as Chair of the Senate Transportation
Committee to relieve traffic congestion throughout the state and to create a long
range plan for California's transportation infrastructure."
