CVF UNVEILS NEW HOME PAGE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB;
ANNOUNCES STAFF ADDITION

Sacramento -- Today the California Voter Foundation (CVF) unveiled its new and improved home page on the World Wide Web, featuring resources designed to provide voters with non-partisan voter information in an easy-to-use format.

"Voters can now find information about California's political parties, statewide officers, and voter registration information through our site," explained Kim Alexander, the group's executive director, noting that the site also features links to CVF's numerous online voter education projects, such as the California Online Voter Guide and the San Francisco campaign finance database. CVF's home page is available on the Web at:

http://www.calvoter.org/cvf.

CVF's new home page also provides organizational information, such as CVF's press releases, news coverage and publications. The site was designed by Alexander, with technical production and support provided by Capitol Web Works of Sacramento.

Another feature of the new site is the "Politics on the 'Net'" survey, which is being conducted by the University of California at Santa Barbara. The purpose of the survey is to determine how voters are using the Internet to get involved in politics. CVF is one of three initial sites where the survey is being conducted; other sites include the Library of Congress' THOMAS web site, and Santa Monica's PEN system. "This is an anonymous survey that will help all of us find out if the Web is changing how people participate in politics," Alexander said.

The California Voter Foundation also announced today that Andrea Cook has joined the organization's staff. Cook, who comes to CVF with several years' of experience in California elections and politics, began her position as program assistant with CVF in July. CVF is currently raising money for and developing the Fall 1996 edition of the California Online Voter Guide, which is scheduled to debut on the Web in September.
