California Online Voter Guide Debuts on the Web

Nonpartisan Site a Clearinghouse of Election Information

Davis, CA -- Today the California Voter Foundation unveiled its new California Online Voter Guide, designed to help voters prepare for the upcoming March 5, 2002 California Primary. The guide is online at:

"Many voters are waiting until the last minute to decide how to vote in this election", said Kim Alexander, CVF president and voter guide co-editor. "Voters who come to www.calvoter.org will find a wealth of reliable, nonpartisan information at their fingertips." The guide features information on the statewide propositions and a directory of all California statewide, legislative and congressional candidates on the Primary ballot, along with links to their official campaign web sites.

CVF's voter guide, now in its eighth edition, has over the years become an essential election resource for voters and journalists alike. During the 2000 election, CVF's web site logged over 800,000 visits and more than 1.4 million page views.

Other new election features on CVF's web site include:

* The Archive of Campaign Promises, an online resource designed to help the
public keep track of campaign promises made by California's elected leaders;

* The "Election Song", a folk song to inform and engage California voters; and

* Follow the Money, a resource to help the public discover who's financing
California campaigns.

"CVF's web site houses thousands of pages of information, all designed to help the people of California vote with confidence," said Saskia Mills, CVF's executive director and co-editor of the site. "At the California Voter Foundation we know people are busy and we design our online resources to help people find what they need quickly," she added, noting the site is free to the public, requires no registration and contains no advertising.
