Hi Folks,
California voters turned out in large numbers yesterday, with approximately 11 million people casting ballots around the state. As of this afternoon, turnout is at 63.2 percent of registered voters, but election officials have yet to count an estimated 1 to 1.5 million absentee ballots. Secretary of State Bill Jones expects the final turnout will fall somewhere between 70 and 73 percent of registered voters, up from 65.5 percent in the 1996 presidential election.

An "Election Re-Cap" news release put out by the Secretary of State on Monday features a number of interesting election-related statistics, including total number of registered voters in California and Secretary Jones' predicted turnout for yesterday's election. That release can be found online at:

In other news, CVF's Kim Alexander is off to Washington, D.C. to attend the National Civic League's 106th National Conference on Governance.
