RE:   Local elections in 41 California counties next week

Hi Folks,

Believe it or not, it's time for another election! Next Tuesday, November 4th, voters in 41 of California's 58 counties will decide the fate of 90 local ballot measures, and will elect mayors, city council members, school board members, and various other types of special district officials. The most high-profile of these races is the election of a new mayor in San Francisco, which is expected to result in a December 9th run-off election.

Seventeen counties -- including Orange, Sacramento, and San Diego -- will not hold elections on November 4th.

The California Voter Foundation surveyed each county election office and has created a directory of local ballot measures. The directory details the number of measures on the ballot in each county, lists the names of countywide measures, and provides links to additional information for each county; it is online at:

http://www.calvoter.org/novmeasures03.html

Of the 90 local measures on the ballot in California, 75 are city or special district measures and 15 are countywide measures. Voters in the county (and city) of San Francisco will vote on 14 ballot questions, more than in any other county. Outside of San Francisco, the only countywide ballot measure to be decided on November 4th is a sales tax measure in Lake County.

Fifteen county election offices have information about local measures on their web sites, and twelve counties have ballot measure information on the SmartVoter web site. CVF's Local Ballot Measures Directory links to both of these online resources.
