TO: CVF-NEWS FROM: Kim Alexander, CVF President DATE: April 16, 2001 RE: Upcoming CA redistricting & voting tech hearings
Hi Folks,
The California Assembly Elections Committee has two important hearings coming up dealing with redistricting and voting technology legislation:
1. On Tuesday, April 17 the Assembly Elections Committee will hold a public hearing to discuss its plans for ensuring public input into the California redistricting process. The hearing begins at 2:30 p.m. in the State Capitol, Room 126.
If you cannot attend in person, you should be able to access the Assembly's in-house television feed via the California Channel's web site and watch the hearing live on the Internet. Visit http://www.calchannel.com/daily.htm to access the four live video feeds from the Capitol on the Internet (this hearing should be available on feed #2). FYI, Cal Channel carries these feeds from the legislature online every day, so if there is something happening in the Capitol that you want to watch, there is a good chance you will be able to view it through Cal Channel's web site.
2. On Monday, April 23 the Assembly Elections Committee will hear three voting technology bills:
* Assembly Bill 28 authored by Assemblyman Robert Pacheco
* Assembly Bill 55, authored by Assemblyman Kevin Shelley
* Assembly Bill 56, authored by Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg
You can access the text, status and history for all three bills from CVF's Voting Technology Resources web page,
http://www.calvoter.org/votingtechnology.html.
The Assembly Election Committee's web page is located at http://www.assembly.ca.gov/erca, where some information on California's redistricting process and a list of committee members and their email
addresses is available.
Have a great week,
