RE:   12th Annual Computers, Freedom & Privacy conference

Hi Folks,

Next month hundreds of people will gather in San Francisco for the 12th annual Computers, Freedom and Privacy conference, to be held April 16-19 at the Cathedral Hill Hotel.

The conference will take on very timely issues this year relating to freedom and privacy in the post-9/11 environment, along with many other important public policy issues including public record & personal privacy, and voting technology.

More than 50 opinion leaders will address the conference, including Internet pioneer John Perry Barlow, authors Bruce Sterling, Jessica Litman and James Bamford, FTC Chairman Timothy Muris, former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta, Americans for Tax Reform head Grover Norquist, California State Senator Jackie Speier and California Attorney General Bill Lockyer. The complete conference agenda is available online at http://www.cfp2002.org.

The CFP audience is as diverse as the Net itself, with attendees from the community of computer professionals, hackers, crackers and engineers as well as those from government, business, law enforcement, education, and non-profits grappling with the technology's public policy implications. CFP is run on a non-profit basis under the auspices of the Association for
Computing Machinery (ACM).

The California Voter Foundation is a cooperating organization for this conference, and I am serving on the conference's program committee and advisory board, along with being one of the conference's media liaisons.

If you are interested in attending this conference and have not already registered, TODAY is the last day for early registration at reduced rates. Credentialed journalists do not need to pay the registration fee, but do need to register and pay for conference meals. Saturday, March 16 is the last day hotel rooms are available at a discounted rate.

I apologize for the late notice and hope it's not too late for those of you interested in attending to come. More details are available online at http://www.cfp2002.org. I'm looking forward to seeing many of you there!
