I've got two important news items for today's edition of CVF-NEWS:

* Internet Voting Moving Forward in Arizona
The Arizona Democratic Party has teamed up with Election.com to conduct the party's upcoming primary election over the Internet. This election would be the first binding election where the Internet is used to cast ballots.
The party and voting company have lots of information on their respective web sites about how they will conduct this election. They plan to allow voters to cast ballots over the Internet either from an Internet polling place or from home or work. (As you may recall, the California Internet Voting Task Force found that Internet voting from home or work is problematic because there is currently no way to protect a personal computer from a virus or attack which could interfere with or alter ballots cast over the Internet.)
The Arizona experiment was challenged by the Voting Integrity Project, which asked for an injunction to stop the Internet voting, arguing that it would discriminate against those voters without Internet access. Their case was taken up yesterday by a federal judge in Phoenix who, after hearing nine hours of testimony, ruled that the election could go forward. The Voting Integrity Project is appealing the decision. In the meantime, Arizona Democrats and Election.com are moving forward with Internet voting, and plan to conduct online balloting between March 7 - 10, three days in advance of the March 11 Arizona Democratic Primary.

* McCain to Debate Bush, Keyes in Los Angeles
Senator John McCain has agreed to participate via satellite in the L.A. Times/CNN debate in Los Angeles tomorrow night. Tonight's debate is between the leading Democratic candidates, Al Gore and Bill Bradley. Both debates begin at 6 p.m. PST and will be aired live on CNN.
