* Presidential Debates in Los Angeles March 1 & 2
The Los Angeles Times and CNN are co-sponsoring two Presidential debates this week. The first debate will take place on Wednesday, March 1, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. PST. This debate will be between Democratic Presidential candidates Al Gore and Bill Bradley, and will be moderated by CNN's Bernard Shaw. Panelists include Ron Brownstein of the L.A. Times and Jeff Greenfield of CNN. The debate will be held in downtown Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live on CNN, and rebroadcast later the same evening, from 9:00 - 10:30 p.m. PST.
The format includes questions from the audience, and the L.A. Times is also taking questions via their web site. Visit the Times' debate section at www.latimes.com/debate to find out more info.
The Thursday night debate is for the Republican Presidential candidates. By now you have probably all heard the news that John McCain pulled out of this debate and plans to be in New York on Thursday. We are now hearing reports that McCain may try to participate in the debate from New York via satellite. The two other confirmed participants for the Thursday debate are George W. Bush and Alan Keyes. The time and format of the Republican debate is still being decided, so check with the L.A. Times' web site for the latest news on Thursday's debate.
Debate transcripts will run in the Los Angeles Times the day following the debate, and will also be posted on CNN's All Politics web site, at www.cnn.com/allpolitics.

* Late Contributions Now Online!
Back in 1996, the California Voter Foundation launched an election project called "Late Contribution Watch", where we tracked and posted all the large, last minute contributions that flood California campaigns during the last two weeks of the election. Since 1998, the Secretary of State's office has been posting late contributions on their web site, and I'm happy to report that you can go online and view last minute donations right now. The direct link for the late donations is:

* California Online Voter Guide 2000 -- Better than ever!
Our California Online Voter Guide 2000 is being well traveled these days, with already 60,000 visits so far in February. CVF's guide features nonpartisan information on the 20 propositions, as well as 750 California candidates running in 174 contests. We have over 200 links to official campaign web sites, plus "Follow the Money", listing the Top Ten donors for and against California propositions. We are working on updating our Top Ten numbers right now, and hope to have updated figures through the middle of February available by March 2.

* Sing Along with The Proposition Song!
Critics agree -- it's a hit! (Where's my grammy? :) ). Thanks for all the rave reviews on the Proposition Song, now playing on CVF's web site, at www.calvoter.org.
The Proposition Song is an animated, sing-along presentation providing a musical overview of the 20 propositions on the March ballot in less than 4 minutes (think "Schoolhouse Rock" for the Web). Of course, it is only an overview, and not a substitute for additional research on the propositions. But the song will help you get started in preparing to vote, with a bit of humor and lots of fun.
Just visit www.calvoter.org and click on the link to "The Proposition Song". You'll need Flash 4.0 for the full multimedia presentation, or, if you just want to hear the song, you can play the MP3 file in Realplayer, MP3 or Quicktime. * CVF in the News
CVF's web site and Proposition Song have been making the news lately.... many TV and radio stations are playing clips of the song, including CNN's Inside Politics, which used The Proposition Song to narrate a story about California propositions. CVF even has an infomercial running now, courtesy of The Freedom Channel. You can watch our little spot (featuring yours truly pitching our web site) at www.freedomchannel.com.
