TO: CVF-NEWS FROM: Kim Alexander, CVF President DATE: January 22, 2002 RE: CA's statewide primary underway; debate tonight
Hi Folks,
On Tuesday, March 5, just six weeks from today, millions of California voters will participate in the state's 2002 primary election. The contest over who will win the Republican Party's nomination for Governor is heating up and will come into focus tonight when Secretary of State Bill Jones, former Los Angeles Mayor Dick Riordan, and L.A. businessman Bill Simon debate each other at San Jose State University, 7 - 8 p.m.
Jones, Riordan and Simon are the leading candidates for the Republican nomination for governor. Tonight's debate will be carried live by KQED FM's "California Report" and broadcast on pubic radio stations around the state; you can also hear a live webcast at http://www.kqed.org . Many TV stations are also planning to carry the debate live. Kudos are due to the California Broadcasters Association, which is sponsoring the debate and whose staff have worked hard to ensure that the debate is available live on at least one radio and one TV station in each market across the state.
If you miss it tonight you can catch a replay of the debate on the California Channel on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. More information about all the statewide candidates and measures can be found at the California Voter Foundation's 2002 Election Preview site, http://www.calvoter.org/2002.
Have a great week,
