Hi Folks,
This is a reminder email to you about this week's voting technology events as well as an upcoming hearing regarding the California initiative process.
The first annual Voting Technology Expo hosted by California Secretary of State Bill Jones was held today in Sacramento, along with the first day of a two-day hearing sponsored by the Assembly Elections Committee on voting issues and voting technology. On Wednesday I'll be testifying before the committee for the second day of its hearing, and the session will be televised live on the California Channel, so tune in if you can; it begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m.
On Thursday, January 18, I'll be in Washington, DC to participate in a National Press Club debate on computerized voting hosted by the Democracy Online Project at George Washington University. I'm not sure if that event will air on T.V. or not; in any case my remarks, titled "Ten Things I Want People to Know About Voting Technology" will be posted on our web site on Thursday, at http://www.calvoter.org.
Then on Monday, January 22, the Speaker's Commission on the Initiative Process convenes in Sacramento at the State Capitol. I'll be testifying there about the California Voter Foundation's efforts to educate voters about propositions, our Initiative Watch project, as well as other issues.
