Hi folks:

I'm pleased to announce that CVF's 1998 Primary Online Voter Guide now features articles and analysis from the California Journal! The California Journal is a monthly, non-partisan magazine providing independent, non-ideological analysis of California government and politics since 1970. The California Journal has contributed its excellent, candid analysis of California election issues to the California Voter Foundation's online voter guides since 1994, and visitors to our online guide have come to greatly appreciate this wonderful source of independent information on the races and measures.

Since we launched our guide on May 5th, we have added lots of new content and links to the site. Below is a rundown of what's currently available from CVF's 1998 California Primary Online Voter Guide, which you can find on the Internet at http://www.calvoter.org:

ONLINE VOTER GUIDE CONTENTS

• 9 STATEWIDE RACES -- A listing of candidates running in each race, organized by party; a job description for each office, California Journal analysis of each race, ballot pamphlet statements and links to current officeholder information and CVF's 1994 archives; a page for each of the 90 statewide candidates featuring their photo, top three priorities if elected, contact information and links to campaign web sites.

• 9 CALIFORNIA BALLOT MEASURES -- A brief summary of each measure, contact information and links to web sites for ballot measure campaigns, the California Journal's analysis of each measure, and links to official ballot pamphlet information.

• 52 CONGRESSIONAL RACES -- A page for each district, featuring the California Journal's analysis of the race, a map of the district, and a district profile providing community, demographic and historical political data. Each page features a list of the candidates running, their party affiliation, occupation, contact information and links to campaign web sites.

• 100 LEGISLATIVE RACES -- A page for each of the 20 State Senate races and 80 Assembly races, featuring the California Journal's analysis of the race, a map of the district, and a district profile providing community, demographic and historical political data. Each page features a list of the candidates running, their party affiliation, occupation, contact information and links to campaign web sites.

• 170+ LINKS -- CVF's voter guide now features links to more than 170 campaign web sites sponsored by statewide, legislative and congressional candidates and ballot measure campaigns. The guide also provides links to other helpful election-related web sites sponsored by non-profit groups and news organizations. CVF's Campaign Links Bulletin Board, where campaigns can enter their own links, includes more than 100 entries.

• CAMPAIGN FINANCE DATA INFO -- Links to online late contributions and campaign finance statistics, information on filing locations and deadlines, and a preview of CVF's plans to promote online disclosure in the fall election.

• JUDICIAL ELECTIONS GUIDE -- Produced in cooperation with the League of Women Voters and UC Davis, this guide explains how the California court system is organized and provides tips to voters on how to make informed choices in judicial contests.

• "WHICH DISTRICTS DO I LIVE IN?" -- Tips for voters on how to find out which districts they live in, and links to zip code search engines that help voters identify their political districts.

• CALIFORNIA'S POLITICAL PARTIES -- A list of California's eight political parties, stating what each party stands for, the party's top three priorities, and contact information and links to official party web sites.

• VOTER GUIDE ARCHIVES -- Online guides produced by CVF for the 1996 Primary and General Election, and the 1994 General Election, providing helpful historical information and archived platform papers from 32 of the 1994 statewide candidates, creating a powerful new accountability tool for voters and journalists.

• INTERNET AND VOTING STATISTICS -- A compilation of fascinating statistics that demonstrate the Internet's growing influence in California politics.
