MATT FONG EARNS ENDORSEMENT OF OAKLAND TRIBUNE
SACRAMENTO, CA -- Matt Fong, Vice-Chair of the State Board of
Equalization and Republican nominee for State Treasurer, earned the
endorsement of the Oakland Tribune today.
"No statewide race this year is as easy to make a judgement about as the
race for treasurer. Matt Fong is clearly the superior candidate," stated
the Tribune. "Fong is a man with experience and ideas. His opponent,
Democrat Phil Angelides, is the least scrupulous candidate for any
statewide office this year...In an era when citizens are trying to find
reasons to have faith in government, we do not want to see a man as
unprincipled as Phil Angelides in any office, let alone statewide
office. Fortunately, Fong is on the ballot. He is experienced, able,
vigorous and full of ideas, many of them good. It's a clear choice: Matt
Fong for Treasurer."
The Oakland Tribune is the first major daily newspaper to make an
endorsement in the Treasurer's race.
