Tony Miller: Biography

Acting Secretary of State Tony Miller has become known as one of
California's brightest and most highly respected public servants. As
Chief Deputy Secretary of State from 1981-1994, Miller built a solid
reputation for smooth, efficient and fairly run statewide elections, and
for the administration of one of the best-run agencies in state
government.

Before becoming Chief Deputy to former Secretary of State March
Fong Eu, Miller served as the Secretary of State's Chief Legal Counsel
(1976 - 1981). Prior to that, Miller served as an appointed member of the
state's Fair Political Practices Commission (1975-1976). Miller has also
worked as a legislative aide, criminal investigator, college instructor
and firefighter.

Miller graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California
at Davis in 1970 and in 1973 received his law degree from the University
of California (Boalt Hall) School of Law at Berkeley. Miller was raised
in the small town of Chester, Plumas County. He is a lifelong
Californian, a former Eagle Scout, an avid runner and a weekend farmer.
He and his partner of 20 years live on a small farm in Pleasant Grove,
near Sacramento.

As California's next Secretary of State, Tony Miller will
continue the tradition of fair, nonpartisan administration of statewide
elections, and that commitment to efficient public service for which the
office is so renowned. Tony is running on a platform based on restoring
the faith of California's people in the ability of government to lead:
meaningful political reform, a healthy economy and the creation of jobs
through a more responsive government.
