MIKE HUFFINGTON
United States Congressman, 22nd District




EDUCATION

Mike Huffington received a B.S. degree in engineering
and a B.A. degree in economics concurrently from
Stanford University in 1970. Following Stanford, he
received an M.B.A. in finance from Harvard University.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Mike Huffington was elected to Congress from
California's 22nd District (Santa Barbara and San Luis
Obispo Counties) in 1992. He currently serves on the
Small Business and Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs
Committees in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In 1986, President Reagan appointed Mike as Deputy
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Negotiations
Policy with responsibility for conventional arms
control negotiations.

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

Prior to his election to Congress, Mike was the
Chairman of Crest Films, a full service film production
company known for its Emmy-Award winning documentaries,
adventure films and work for non-profit organizations.
Before taking the helm at Crest Films, Huffington
served as Vice Chairman of his family-owned business,
Roy M. Huffington, Inc. (1976-1990) In 1974, he
co-founded Simmons & Huffington, Inc., an investment
banking firm which raised capital for small business.
Huffington began his business career in 1972 at The
First National Bank of Chicago in corporate finance.

CIVIC INVOLVEMENT (PARTIAL)

The Huffingtons currently serve on the Board of
Trustees of the University of California Santa Barbara
Foundation and the Board of Overseers of the Los
Angeles Music Center. Mike Huffington is also a
member of the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara
Zoological Foundation. The Huffingtons are actively
involved in the effort to benefit underprivileged
children and their families. Mike Huffington donated
his 1993 Congressional salary and will donate his
1994 Congressional salary to the Partnership for the
Children of Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo
County.

PERSONAL

Michael Huffington was born in Dallas, Texas in 1947.
His wife Arianna, is an internationally known author,
lecturer and television personality. She is the host
of a new television show, "Critical Mass," and her
sixth book, The Farth Instinct, was released in May
of 1994. Arianna's two best-selling biographies of
Pablo Picasso and Maria Callas are currently being
made into motion pictures. Michael and Arianna married
in 1986 and are the proud parents of two daughters.
