BIOGRAPHY OF RICHARD RIDER
AGE: 48
EDUCATION: BA Economics, University of North Carolina, 1968.
MILITARY SERVICE: Commander, Supply Corps, U. S. Naval Reserve, retired after
26 years. Vietnam veteran.
OCCUPATION: Stockbroker and Financial Planner. Lifetime member of the International
Association of Financial Planners.
AFFILIATION: National Taxpayers Union, United Taxpayers of San Diego, Council
for a Competitive Economy, National Tax Limitation Committee, Nature Conservancy,
Citizens Against Government Waste, San Diego Taxpayers Association, Howard Jarvis
Taxpayers Association, Paul Gann's Citizens Committee, People's Advocate and just
about every other taxpayer group known to the Western world.
POLITICAL ACTIVITIES: Actively supported a variety of tax-cutting ballot initiatives
including Proposition 13. Co-wrote ballot arguments against several county and state
tax increase initiatives. Successfully sued county to force rollback of an illegal
county 1/2 cent sales tax, saving California taxpayers over EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS.
County Chair of both term limit initiatives (Prop 140 and Prop 164). 1986 and 1988
Libertarian Party candidate for the 41st Congressional district. 1992 candidate for
3rd District County Supervisor (took third place among the six candidates with about
20% of the vote). Current Vice-Chair of San Diego County Social Services Advisory
Board. Past Chair of the San Diego County Libertarian Party.
FAMILY: Married. Wife, Diane, is a high school teacher. Two sons, ages 15
and 10.
