Los Angeles -- In a morning meeting today with reporters, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Kathleen Brown unveiled an alternative state budget strategy that she
called "tough, responsible and realistic about the challenges facing California and its economy."

In the following four pages, Brown outlines six key budget principles, sets forward details on budget cuts and compares her strategy with Wilson's.

"Pete Wilson's budget is a politically expedient lie," Brown told the Friday Group, a regular gathering of Southern California-based political reporters. The
Governor's budget is "late, shortsighted, balanced on the prayer of $3.6 billion in federal money and offers no hope for the future."
